Opinons on Common Core

Alright my teacher friends! I've got some questions for you! I've heard some good and bad about the CCSS. I've never actually seen or heard teachers' opinions about it, so I'm turning to you to ask.
I've recently looked through my son's workbook from last year (second grade) and didn't really see anything I was too worried about. I've heard people talking about the Federal Dept of Edu is somehow pushing sex edu and other things on the elementary students through Common Core.
I've looked through some of your blogs and see that most of you don't see anything wrong with it, but that there is a few of you who seem to be only teaching it because you have to. So, with that said, I would LOVE your opinions and thoughts. Have you found anything about Common Core that makes you uncomfortable? Are there things in Common Core that you really don't want to teach? Would you teach things differently if you could without losing your job or license?
Please bombard me with comments about your thoughts!!! Thank you so much in advance!!

  1. I'm on a common core committee in Louisiana. I'm going to give you resources to make your own opinion. I personally really like the standards. Each state decides what curriculum to use that goes along with the standards. The standards are not a curriculum. I think CCSS lines up with how most teachers already teach. We teach in depth and give students a variety of ways to solve problems. I'm going to give you a variety of websites from both sides.

I hope this helps you develop your own opinion. All teachers have different experiences and strengths. So I understand why some are uneasy about it or don't like it, especially since it's so new. I do like it, but everyone is different. :)
